Restaurant Review: 2112

Heard about this place for quite some time but tried it. A few weeks ago I finally got the opportunity. There are plenty of places that serves burgers and most of them are pretty

The Location. It’s on Magsinsgatan in down town Gothenburg and even inside the moat. Magasinsgatan is an are that holds a good amount of places that serves good food so only by being here raises the expectations.

The interior is nice but nothing that stands out as extraordinary. However I don’t really want that. It has a good bar where you can see that there is a good selection of beers, whiskey and even what seams to be better kinds of tequilas. Rock music in the speakers and music awards behind the bar. Thats because its owned by members of the classic Swedish rockband Inflames. Solid and honest interior.

What to drink. This is a not only good place to have a beer, its a great place to have a beer. I could easily go here just to have a great beer. The owners also have a brewery and their beer is on the menu here together with a wide selection of other good breweries. I had one of the best beers I’ve ever tasted here. And it where the Odd Island Brewery A Passage To New England that obviously is a New England IPA.

The food. What you’re most likely here for the burgers. I had the smoke on the water burger with regular fries and chili aioli. Good meet perfectly made great ingredients. This is the best in town. It’s among the best burgers I’ve tasted. The fries is just as I want then with good taste and perfectly crispy on the outside.

Most spicy beer ever

I’ve tasted beer with chili before but this one where really the next level. But why beer on a Thursday?

That’s a totally reasonable question. In Sweden we have summer normally from June to August. So when it today became a sunny Thursday with 20 degrees Celsius it’s a gift. It’s pretty much as Swedish summer in October!

So I just couldn’t let a summer evening possibility like this slip by without a beer on the balcony. The result ended up in me testing the Norwegian beer Habañero Helles Chilli Lager from the Ægir brewery. A perfectly good lager with a kick of Habanero. And that kick is spicy not just a little bit, it’s spicy for real unlike chili beers I’ve tried before. If you like spicy stuff you got to try it. Truly and experience and at the same time a good lager. However I would probably taste even better when it’s a bit more chilly outside (Yes, that was a wordplay and a Gothenburg-ish joke).

By the way the sunset where pretty good to!

However this years its been quite different and warmer than usually. The summers we are used to however has made us worship the sun and warm weather.

A sunny Thursday and 20 degrees Celsius outside. That’s pretty much as Swedish summer in October!

Restaurant Review: Zocalo

Tried this place for lunch a Saturday with my dad. Zocalo is located in the shopping mall Frölunda Torg which translates into Frölunda square. Service where good, not exceptional and not bad but just what you should expect.

The interior of the place is classic modern and stereotypical Mexican not the Swedish taco Mexican but the more real Mexican way. It had potential to really become great with some minor adjustment such as more vibrant color and so on but I didn’t. Despite all this the interior where over what I’ve expected from this place.

However, the real deal for lunch is the food. The menu where full of Mexican dishes and flavors but the taste where just not what I wanted. The food where barley okay. I would so much like to write something else but I just couldn’t.

This is to sum up a place that I would not recommend.

Spa Review: Upper House Spa

The Upper House Spa is located near Korsvägen in the Gothia Crown Skyscraper in Downtown Gothenburg and I would say that is the most centrally located spa in a big city that I’ve ever visited.

The concept is brilliant. And outdoor pool 50 meters above the ground totally in glas which means that you can see through the bottom of the pool down to the ground and get a pretty amazing view of the city and the nearby amusement park Liseberg. And the indoor spa have huge panorama windows that gives you a beautiful view of the city. I think this part is pretty genius to be honest. The view of the city from above gives you somehow a kind of peacefulness. This is also the newest spa as I know about in Gothenburg.

The interior is clean, modern with thick ropes as hangers for your bathrobe and a lot of black stone and blue pools. It’s modern and beautiful. Just right for a spa in this location.

The spa itself offers three pools, an experience shower with different kinds of waterfalls. An ice bucket to cool of. Two kind of saunas and a Hamam. Which is like a sauna with hot stone benches. And there is also a relax room where you can lay down an drink water and eat fruit. Other spas I’ve visited had more to offer, but for a few hours which where the case for my evening visit here The Upper House Spa where just perfect. Not to much and to to little but just the right amount.

I enjoyed this spa very much and could definitely good back soon again. Highly recommended and among the best spas I’ve been to.

Family weekend

This weekend I will stay in Göteborg or I already know now that there will be some trips to Kungsbacka. It will be dinner at moms on Saturday and lunch at dads on Sunday. It’s Christmas things and for dad it’s also a birthday party in order to celebrate that it’s his birthday today in fact.

Tomorrow my wife will arrive in Göteborg as well so I’m looking forward, haven’t seen her this week yet.

It’s been nice day and I visited my grandma and did some preparations for the weekend. What’s you plans?

Sunday and I’m in the Göteborg area over the weekend. Got to be honest pretty nice to here. It got a special place in my heart. Friday night we (me and my girlfriend G) arrived to Kungälv and had BBQ with her parents which where real nice. Yesterday we visited my home town Kungsbacka and meet up with my dad and his girlfriend and took his new boat out on the the fjord there and dad tried his new fishing equipment and we took a swim and had a classic Swedish fika before we headed back to the main land.

Then me and G drove into here sister K in Göteborg and had dinner and after that we went on the Håkan Hellström concert at Ullevi (Håkan Hellström is among the biggest Swedish artists today and Ullevi is  a big outdoor arena) and we also broke the arena record with 70.000 in the audience. An amazing evening and buggy and now I’ve just woken up in Kungälv and its time to start the day. What did you do yesterday?

Bithdays & Concerts

Today I’m renting a car and will drive down to Göteborg, Sweden from my home here in Oslo, Norway. Is not that long drive and me and my girlfriend G does it from time to time over the weekends.

This weekend the plan is to celebrate some birthdays. I turned 29 a few weeks ago, my girlfriend G have birthday on Monday and here dad later that week so we will celebrate all of us this weekend.

Saturday is also the big concert day. Me, my girlfriend G and here sister K will go and see Håkan Hellström. Is a Swedish artist from Göterborg and comes from the indiepop genre and that kind of grew into one of the most popular artist in Sweden. The concert will be on the legendary arena New Ullevi and I think it will be somewhere around 60 000 – 70 000 people there so it will be amazing. Is a also nice weatherreports which makes it even better because it’s an outdoor arena.  By the way in the 80’s Bruce Springsteen played here and the concert damaged the arena so they had to rebuild parts of it in order to fix it. That a hell of a concert!

I also hope to get some time to stop by dad and check out his new and first real boat but will see if there is time for that. I hope so.

Café Review: Café Da Matteo, Gothenburg Sweden

I visited Gothenburg a city where I lived for 7 years before my nice to Oslo. But one thing I always wanted to try but never got the time to do is to try café Da Matteo. It’s mentioned in several international magazines and papers and is to be seen as the best café in Gothenburg if I got it right. Its also mentioned in the Swedish White Guide that rank the best places in Sweden to eat and drink.

So I finally tried it. I tried the nougat Croissant and the apple juice. Nothing very spectacular to try and all this where good. In fact it was very good but not the best I ever tried of the top croissant of apple juice. I had higher expectations after read and heard all about it.

However the the environment where cool it’s located in a very central but still a bit secluded part of the city and with a little square in front of it with trendy stores which I also visited. But the setting of the café is old fashion. The best feature is its location and interior or to be able to sit outside and look at people. I would try it again if I got the chance. I will give it 4 out 5 points and would recommend it.

Snabb visit i Göteborg
