Island of Ven

Good food, drinks and stunning landscapes. Ven is an island in the middle of the narrow between Sweden and Denmark.

Me and my G have just arrived to the mainland after 3 days on the island. Still I’m trying to find a reason to go back.

Our accommodation for our stay at Ven has been on the camping Camp Ven in our tent. This place as been really good. Clean toilets and showers. What I should call the right amount of guests. A bar and resultant with both good food and drinks much better than I’ve expected out of a camping. Good service, I can really recommend this place.

First day we spent settling down at the camping and having a nice evening with dinner and wine.

Our second day we rented bikes in order to ride around the entire island which takes about 90 minutes. A beautiful ride. However we to a break in one of the harbors to have a smoked salmon lunch with potato salad and a beer. After that we continued to a beach and took a swim and then returning to the camping.

After short stop at the camping we took the bikes to Spirits of Hven Backafallsbyn for a gourmet tasting. Where we tasted Vodka, Akvavit, Gin and Whiskey and learned what drinks you could do from some of them and proportions. The also talked about the history and the making of the different spirits and of the distillery.

After the tasting me and G had a great dinner at their restaurant. Where we both where very pleased with the food and the setting. Lovely outdoor section of the restaurant.

Then we headed back to to camping and took the ferry back to the mainland. The easiest way to get both to and from the island is by ferry from Landskrona.

Ven where a super nice short stop at our vacation and I can highly recommend it. The fact is that I would more than love to go back.

Food, Beer & Copenhagen

Right now in Copenhagen for about 24 hours on vacation. So I’ve been here before and seen the little mermaid, Nyhavn and a few other tourist sites. So, what to do? It’s pretty simple. I love this city and I love food and beer. Which in this case seams to be a pretty perfect combo. Because that’s something that Copenhagen does really good.

Me and my wife started of by talking a walk and go shopping in the district of Vesterbro that is a really cool district. I found a new shirt and T-shirt.

Then we had booked a table at Mad & Kaffe after recommendations from a friend that lives in Copenhagen. Here I had the best ice the I ever had. Sweet ice the with passion fruit. Already here this where a really good place that I had the salmon sandwich and the fries with aioli and it became a great place. One of my best experiences of Scandinavian food.

After lunch it was nice to walk from Vesterbro to Nørrebro along the lakes and water in central Copenhagen. The warm sunny weather and the beautiful and diverse architecture made this replacing and beautiful. Got that summer vacation vibe.

Then we stopped at Brus which is a stunning beer and food bar in a brewery run by To Øl. I found this place while looking for beer bars and breweries in Copenhagen. This is hipster place with classic Scandinavian interior and amazing beer. Probably my new favorite place in Copenhagen. Can’t wait to visits the place again.

A walk back to the hotel and then dinner at Warpigs in Kødbyen. Which also is a brewery pub know for its meat in Texan bbq style and their beer. Real great meat and good beer in a big square with a lot of other restaurants.

Amazing day in Copenhagen and a great day just hangin around.

Shopping & Sightseeing in Copenhagen

This morning I woke up in an sunny Copenhagen with snow in the air. I live a short walk from the train station and could see from my hotel window, it’s a pretty majestic building. I started of the day by take a walk to the pedestrian shopping street Strøget.

Started out by the city hall which is a enormous brick building with status and gold.

We walked along Strøget and took a side street in order to find H&M’s latest concept which is a store brand called Arket. I rather quick found two T-shirt’s and a woolen hat. Bit by wife won the shopping as she usually does.

The my sister and her boyfriend joined us and we had a quick hotdog at 7-eleven. Before we hoped on a hop on hop off sightseeing bus and a tour called the mermaid tour. Yes it actually takes you to the statue of the mermaid as a inspiration of the famous danish author H.C. Andersens story. The tour also show us Nyhavn a The Royal palaces in Copenhagen among other things.

After that we slit up for a moment me and the family and me and G got back to Strøget for some more shopping. And I spent some time taking some photos. The tour and the walking around Copenhagen has really made me see more of the great architecture of Copenhagen.

We finished of the night by dinner at the concept restaurant The Italian. Which obviously serves great Italian food. Where we had a three course dinner and some good wine, everyone excepts my sister which is pregnant. So pretty awesome day and I highly recommend The Italian.

Restaurant Review: BAO Kitchen

BAO Kitchen is located in the “old town” of down town Kungsbacka, Sweden. Rather close to the central station and Kungsbacka square. From what I know this is a rather new place that serves Asian fusion food.

The interior is probably best described as green and rustic with focus on nature and natural material such as wood. Not the most cosy vibe when I first looked in from the street but once you got in and got you table it was much better than expected and a nice relaxed vibe.

How about the food? I tried a bun meal and a salmon bowl. The buns where probably the best buns I’ve tried and the bowl where real good but not the best I’ve tried. Still very high class and this is without a doubt the best restaurant I’ve ever tried in Kungsbacka. The food where good, exciting and something new for me and as the same time high quality. Best restaurant in town! I highly recommend this place.

Restaurant Review: Stateline Brewery & Restaurant, South Lake Tahoe

Another stop at my California road trip when I visited South Lake Tahoe.

The Stateline Brewery & Restaurant was the second brewery I visited during the road trip. Its a restaurant and bar in the basement for a more mountain and cabin inspired shopping street with small malls in a similar style of buildings.

I had the chipotle chicken pizza with seasoned chicken, bacon, red peppers and pepper jack cheese with marinara sauce with chipotle aioli and green onions. Never ate this kind of pizza earlier but got to say that it was much better than expected and tasted good. Nothing but an ordinary pizza in my world but nice to try something different and this was apparently the pizza that where most popular and had been on the menu for the longest time. So, enough about the food. How was the beer? The beer was good or I would even say that it was great. The fact is that I could recommend this place only for the beer.

A place I would recommend, especially for the beer. I give this place 3 out of 5 points a real good place that I would recommend this place.

Restaurant Review: The Venice Whaler

During my road trip to California last summer I visited Venice Beach and tried out The Venice Whaler. Located in a unique blue house with a clear surf vibe to it which I really like and its located just by the Venice beach boardwalk. And because it was the first day in California i just had to get a burger.

So I tried the Whaler burger which where a real good burger with the place own beef patty blend, cheddar, slaw, chefs secret sauce and had fries with mayo to go along with the burger. The burger where a real good burger no doubt about that but the real thing here is really the fries. In fact I think they have the best fries in the world here. Its just perfect from the inside and out and the crispness is just perfect. Have never experienced better fries than these once.

If you visiting Venice beach I would really recommend this place and if I would grade it gets 4 strong points out of 5.

Restaurant Review: Graffiti Cafe

During my visit in Lund last weekend I visited Graffiti cafe for a quick lunch.

The interior is classic Swedish café interior but rather cosy and big windows towards the cosy little street outside in the heart of Lund.

I tried the baked potatoes with seafood. This must be one of the classics and its good. To bad that it feels like its a seafood covered baked potato. This made me a bit disappointed but it was good and so much food anyway that I got full. It serves it purpose and it’s an okay restaurant/cafe but would not give it my recommendations. It get 2 out 5 points.
